Developing talent
The acquisition has played an important role in InSite’ s expansion beyond oil and gas. Water infrastructure and electrical grid projects are now increasingly important areas of focus, especially as utilities respond to investment and capacity needs across the UK.
Working with sister companies PDL and Crouch Waterfall, InSite is expanding its work in projects with Welsh Water while looking at opportunities across Scotland and the northeast of England.
Even as new sectors become a larger part of the business, the priorities that shaped InSite’ s formation remain firmly in place.“ We’ re very proud when we can recruit graduates from the area or attract talent to the region. About a quarter of our employees have come through apprenticeship and graduate pathways, and our team now includes
around ten nationalities. I’ m very pleased about that; it gives us a diverse workforce.”
Expanding into new markets matters, but so does helping the region to keep developing engineering talent.“ We’ re proud whenever we can help graduates from the area, or those who move here, build their careers.”
Oil and gas still account for most of InSite’ s work, but projects in hydrogen, SAF, water infrastructure, and energy transition areas continue to grow. Indeed, water provision and grid connectivity have become recurring themes in conversations across the infrastructure sector. For Jean, both are chances to apply the company’ s engineering expertise in areas that support economic activity and industrial growth.“ We’ d like to do more work in those essential infrastructure areas,” Jean concludes. ■
